Rosenmontag in Mainz

Life is like a carnival ride. You can play it safe and ride the merry-go-round, it’s predictable. But, myself personally, I will ride the rollercoaster, for all it’s glory and thrills, It’s ups and downs, twists and turns, and rushes. Isn’t life a rush ?

We spent the morning hosting an early breakfast party for friends, sipping Bloody Mary’s, and catching up.  When the parade began promptly at 11:11am, we secured a front row seat to the madness of the Rosenmontag parade and enjoyed every second of it.  My favorite memory of the day is our friend C waking up from a post-parade nap and insistently referring to that morning as “yesterday.”  It took a lot of convincing for him to believe that it was still the same day and there was more fun to be had.   It may take a whole year to recover, but we’ve all vowed to come back for next year’s spectacle!
For more on Fastnacht, check out my posts on Mainz’s traditions and Wiesbaden’s parade.  Also, my friend Erica wrote about the weekend  here and here.

    • Thank you, Liz! It was a crazy, overly-stimulating weekend, but I lived to tell the tale. The Germans really know how to throw a good party.
