What travel/food blog posted on December 31st would be complete without a round-up of the author’s favorite foods from the year? Not this one! So here they are, my top food photos from my travels this year. Conspicuously absent are all of the spießbraten, bratwurst, schnitzel, and kartoffelpuffers that I ate at the Christmas markets this year because none of them lasted long enough to be captured…maybe next year.
Mussels stuffed with rice and spices in Istanbul, Turkey.
Two things about this that I love: the hanging grill covered in meats and the genius condiment dispenser of all German festivals.
Bullots in Normandy, France. Fun to eat and delicious (especially when dunked in flavored mayonnaise).
Moules at an amazing B&B on Omaha Beach, Normandy.
That would be a cone full of fries topped with crab dip and crumbled bacon. Otherwise known as the most delicious thing to ever come in a cone. Ah, to be back in Baltimore, Maryland.
More moules in Bruges.
Mousaka in Crete.
A crepe stuffed with cheese, topped with honey, and served with a frothy coffee drink, a.k.a, one of the best breakfasts ever. Crete.
Gnocchi in Rome.
Matriciana in Rome. If I were going to be crazy enough to try to pick a favorite food of the year, this would be a top contender. I even tried my hand at recreating it without pasta here. But why choose? There are 365 dinners in a year for a reason.
More from Rome.
And still more from Rome. My Sicilian genes could not resist.
Ridiculously good burgers at The Bird in Berlin.
Iberico Ham in Southern Spain.
Gazpacho-stuffed mussels in Nerja, Spain.
Gazpacho in Granada, Spain.
And one more mussel photo for the road. Bruges.
Wishing you bon appétit in 2015!
