Thank goodness for this weekend’s sunshine. Today, winter made it’s presence known in Mainz and I think it plans to stay. Ever the fashionable chameleon, the Dom looks as stately in gray skies as in blue.
Post-Christmas-winter in Germany is known to bring out the winter blues or, more accurately, the winter grays. A consistent ceiling of gray, broken-up only by the occasional crow, the sky shrouds the landscape in a depressing winter haze.
Lucky for me, however, that is not our current reality here in Mainz! While the US’ east coast is emerging from the icy claw of the Polar Vortex, we’re experiencing gorgeous warm weather, complete with blue sky and sunshine. Making the most of the sun while we have it, S and I spent a lovely Saturday picking-up fresh local vegetables and eggs at the market and taking a little Sunday run along the Rhine. While I miss my usual run on DC’s Mount Vernon Trail, I think I could get used to this view.
Now it’s off to eat chili and watch football (I love embracing the culture of my new location, but there are certain American traditions that are not to be neglected).
